Here’s what’s happening this week:
Winter Book Fair – Our PALS Winter Book Fair starts this Thursday! We would LOVE more volunteers! If you can help out please sign up here.
PALS Movie Night – Hope you can join us this Friday (2/10) for Movie Night. I’ve heard “Storks” is really funny and I look forward to seeing you there!
Reading & Writing – Our class really enjoyed Friends Around the World and The House On Maple Street. Through these two texts, we learned how different communities (rural, urban, suburban) provide different experiences. Now we are taking this information and using it to write a comparative paragraph. A compare and contrast paragraph includes a topic sentence, 3 comparison (same) sentences, 3 contrasting (different) sentences, and a closing sentence. We are focusing on specific language and sentence frames.
Math - This week we will be taking our number line checkpoint to show adding and subtracting within 100 to solve one- and two-part word problems on the open number line. Remember – a subtraction problem always starts with the answer! Also, addition problems move to the right on the number line, while subtraction problems move to the left.
Science – Today we sorted our rocks by different properties. Next we will explore the different particle sizes of river rocks by sifting them with different size screens.
Spelling – Our Week 14 spelling words include sight words, -or- pattern, and academic vocabulary. The test for these words will be on Friday, February 10th. You can get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/.
Valentine Boxes – Start planning on how you will decorate a valentine box or bag for our valentine exchange on Tuesday, February 14th. We will use this day to celebrate the friendships that we have built this year. If you need any cards, I have a TON that I would love to share with you! Just send me a note! J If you choose to bring your own, they may be store bought or homemade. Please be sure to include everyone. A class list was sent home, but please let me know if you need another one. I will send directions for the written part of this project soon. Students will need to list the steps they took to make their valentine box/bag in order and provide plenty of details so their project could be duplicated. This report should include complete sentences and pictures/diagrams for each step. Finished boxes and reports are due on Monday, February 13th.
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
School Levy – The Camas School Levy is up for renewal this year. Don’t forget to vote and return your ballots! J
