Here’s what’s happening this week:
Wednesday – Wednesday is a full day with student dismissal at 3:30.
Winter Book Fair – Our PALS group is sponsoring our Winter Book Fair from Feb 9-17. We would LOVE more volunteers! If you can help out please sign up here.
Reading – We started a new book this week, The House on Maple Street, by Bonnie Pryor. We will be examining the text for evidence that this community changed over time and how the author used word choice to show this. Some examples of key phrases are: three hundred years ago, the next spring, soon after, for a while, several years, etc.
Writing – We are learning how to write a compare and contrast paragraph using a topic sentence, 3 comparison sentences, 3 contrasting sentences, and a closing sentence.
Math - We have started Unit 3 – Adding and Subtracting within 100 to solve one- and two-part word problems. We will continue to use CUBES and PLAN to solve story problems. Students are learning how to SHOW their work using a number line.
Social Studies – Our social studies lessons are moving into maps and map skills. Students will learn how to use a grid, cardinal directions, and how to use a map key.
Science – We have started our science unit – Pebbles, Sand, and Silt this week. Students will be conducting investigations to better understand the world around us including the formation of our physical environment. We really enjoyed our geologist guest speaker, Mrs. Alpsen, as she shared with us how major natural hazards help change the earth’s surface. We learned about and watched videos of earthquakes, landslides, and volcanos.
Spelling – We are on Week 13 words! J The test for those words will be on Friday, February 3rd. You can get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/. This list includes sight words, -at pattern, and r-controlled “e”.
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
School Levy – The Camas School Levy is up for renewal this year. Don’t forget to vote and return your ballots! J
Plastic – Please send in any plastic bags or wrapping for our school-wide plastic drive!
Box Tops – Keep saving and sending in your box tops and labels for education. The fall drive is over, but we will have another class competition in the spring.
