Team 202,
Here’s what’s happening this week:
OMSI Field Trip - Mark your calendars for April 21st. Second grade will be heading to OMSI to learn about bricks, earth science, and watch a STEM movie that will motivate and encourage our students in their scientific creativity. Look for forms and volunteer information soon. If you would like to volunteer, please make sure that your information is up to date in the office.
Reading & Writing –We are starting a new non-fiction reading unit on money. Our first book is Money Matters! by Nikki Tate. Students will learn about the history of money, trading, currency, values, names, and more! At the end of this unit, students will write an opinion piece about money. This would be a great time to work with your child on identifying different coins, their values, and different combinations that make the same amount (one quarter is equal to two dimes and one nickel).
Math – This week we are diving into place value to 1,000! We will be working with some big numbers and using what we know about smaller numbers to solve more difficult problems.
Social Studies – Did you know maps are drawings of places? Maps have keys, grids, symbols, and a compass rose. In this unit, we will dig into maps and how to use them.
Spelling – We are taking a break from spelling during this very exciting pre-Spring Break week. You can always get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/.
Jungle – All this week, Mrs. Moran will have the gym set up like the jungle as we learn how to use the different gymnastics apparatus! Fun times! This is a great time to show that Lacamas Leopards are Respectful – Responsible – Safe!! Our extra Jungle Time for students that raised $65+ is on Friday.
Spirit Day – Friday, March 24th is our next dress up spirit day. Let’s get wild and dress up like our favorite jungle animal!
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
Plastic – Please send in any plastic bags or wrapping for our school-wide plastic drive!
Box Tops – Keep saving and sending in your box tops and labels for education. Our school wide class competition is over, however I will continue to collect them.

Hope you have a fabulous week!
