Team 202,
Here’s what’s happening this week:
OMSI Field Trip – This Friday is our field trip to OMSI! I look forward to this all year. Thank you volunteers, we couldn’t do this field trip with you! Second grade will be heading to OMSI to learn about bricks (Legos – that is), earth science, and watch a STEM movie that will motivate and encourage our students in their scientific creativity.
Reading & Writing –In reading we are digging into the book I Wanna Iguana. This is a fun way to show students how to support opinions with examples. We are taking the examples from the book and using them for our writing. In writing we are continuing to learning about opinions and how to use examples to support our reasons. We are learning a new technique, OREO. That stands for state your OPINION clearly, tell your REASON for your opinion, and give an EXAMPLE to support opinion and then re state your OPINION. Using OREO at home can help your student with their assessment on opinion writing.
Math – This week in math we are continuing to learn about coins. We have learned two games to help us understand the value of 100 pennies. We are having a fantastic time learning that we don’t need to use pennies for everything and that having 4 quarters takes up less space than 100 pennies. We are also continuing our fluency tests during math. Please practice these with your child at home. Your student needs to complete a level in 2 minutes or less. Thank you for helping your student at home to make sure that they are practicing their fluency. Keep up the good work! J
Social Studies – We are still learning about maps and how to read north, south, east and west. This will be our last week of social studies because we got new FOSS kits for science, starting next week!
Spelling – Our Week 22 spelling words include sight words, final –ing pattern, and academic vocabulary. PLEASE NOTE: The test for these words will be on Thursday April 20, 2017 because of the field trip on Friday. You can get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/.
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
Plastic – Please send in any plastic bags or wrapping for our school-wide plastic drive!
Box Tops – Keep saving and sending in your box tops and labels for education. Our school wide class competition is over, however I will continue to collect them.
