Team 202,
Here’s what’s happening this week:
Welcome back! Hope you all had a fun and relaxing spring break and that you’re ready to get back in the groove of school!
OMSI Field Trip – Calling all volunteers! We can’t do this field trip without YOU! If you are interested in joining us as a chaperone for the field trip to OMSI next Friday, please complete the permission slips that went home today and return as soon as possible. I will check to see if your volunteer paperwork is current with the district and let you know. Second grade will be heading to OMSI to learn about bricks (Legos – that is!, earth science, and watch a STEM movie that will motivate and encourage our students in their scientific creativity. Permission slips and volunteer information went home today. Please return as soon as possible. Thank you!
Reading & Writing –We are continuing our study of non-fiction text features. Our first book is Money Matters! by Nikki Tate. Students will learn about the history of money, trading, currency, values, names, and more! At the end of this unit, students will write an opinion piece about money. This would be a great time to work with your child on identifying different coins, their values, and different combinations that make the same amount (one quarter is equal to two dimes and one nickel).
Math – This week we are diving into place value to 1,000! We will be working with some big numbers and using what we know about smaller numbers to solve more difficult problems. Please continue to practice math facts for at least 10 minutes a day. Encourage your child to sign up for a fluency test when they can complete a level in under two minutes. J
Social Studies – Did you know maps are drawings of places? Maps have keys, grids, symbols, and a compass rose. In this unit, we will dig into maps and how to use them.
Spelling – Our Week 21 spelling words include sight words, final –es pattern, and academic vocabulary. The test for these words will be on Friday, April 14th. You can get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/.
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
Plastic – Please send in any plastic bags or wrapping for our school-wide plastic drive!
Box Tops – Keep saving and sending in your box tops and labels for education. Our school wide class competition is over, however I will continue to collect them.
