Team 202,
Here’s what’s happening this week:
Golden Awards – Woo! Hoo! Team 202 earned the Golden Sneaker award for the month of February for our awesome line behavior! The entire 2nd grade also won the Golden Tray award for being the quietest and neatest grade during lunch. Way to go 2nd Grade!!!
Jump Rope for Heart – Jump rope for heart is right around the corner! Donations are due Friday, March 10th. Keep sending them in. Additional forms are available upon request. This is such a great way for our students and families to support those in our community and WE THANK YOU!!!
Dr. Seuss Week – This Thursday is Read Across America Day. We will celebrate with a read-in and green eggs and ham for lunch on Thursday. Then, we’ll finish off the week with a Superhero Spirit Day on Friday! Dust off those capes and get ready for some super reading!!!
PALS Dance – Mark your calendars for our annual Lacamas Heights Dance this Friday, March 3rd. The theme is Superheroes!!!
Reading & Writing –During this reading unit, starring Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday, we will focus on the structure of a story, that describing a character’s actions, thoughts, and feelings enhances a story, and that people make decisions based on their needs and wants.
ReadnQuiz – Directions for logging into ReadnQuiz were sent home last week so students can log in and take a comprehension quiz on books they’ve read. These can be books you’ve read at home or books they’ve read or heard at school. Taking tests earns students points that can be spent at school at the Bookworm Bazaar. Happy reading!!!
Math - We started Unit 4 – Measurement this week. We will be discovering the importance of using a standard unit of measurement, adding lengths, comparing lengths (how much longer is this than that), and that the bigger the unit of measurement (yards) the smaller the number of units. Conversely, the smaller the unit of measurement (inches), the greater the number of units. This is a very challenging concept for 2nd graders so any support you can provide at home is greatly appreciated! J Remember to log into ReflexMath.com to get your green light at least 3 times a week.
Science – We are continuing our explorations of rocks and their sizes. Rocks are made of minerals. Rocks can change into something else, but minerals can’t.
Spelling – Our Week 17 spelling words include sight words, final blend -nd, and academic vocabulary. The test for these words will be on Friday, March 3rd. You can get extra practice by going to https://www.spellingcity.com/knorgard/.
Make-up Days – Here is the link to the revised calendar that the district has provided. Please note that some early release days have been changed to full days.
Plastic – Please send in any plastic bags or wrapping for our school-wide plastic drive!
Box Tops – Keep saving and sending in your box tops and labels for education. Our school wide class competition is over, however I will continue to collect them.
Hope you have a fabulous week!
